Welcome to your club website. My name is Ken Marshall and I am the club sites officer and webmaster. I liaise with farmers and landowners in order to organise the sites where we go to for a dig each week.
The Oxford Blues Metal Detecting Club was formed over 18 years ago,and consists of a small informal group of enthusiasts who meet monthly at the British Legion, Littlemore.
Most members have been detecting for many years and have attained a vast knowledge of detecting and it’s associated activities. One of our members has been with the Club since its commencement.
Club Meetings
We have a meeting the second Friday of every month at the British Legion Club at Littlemore. We hold a find of the month competition for coins and artefacts voted by the members.
The winners receive points and a find of the month certificate the following month.The winner with the most points at the end of the year is awarded a trophy with their name engraved on to hold for the year. We hold a raffle to help the club funds .A guest speaker is invited at times to give talks on subjects related to our hobby.
Our Digs
We endeavour to have a dig most Sundays subject to availability of land to search and weather permitting. An e-mail is sent to all members who have a computer with the location of the digs and directions to get there. Members without a computer can phone to get directions for the dig.
The monthly gathering is very informal, members bring along ‘finds’ made during the previous month which are displayed and a vote is taken by the members to pick the coin and artfefact find of the month.
The winners receive a certificate the following month with points awarded and the member with the most points at the end of the year is presented with a trophy with their name engraved on to keep for a year.
There is a yearly subscription which includes a Civil Liability insurance cover for its members. The limit of the indemnity is £5,000,000 under a policy written by the Sun Alliance Insurance Group,
To cover the cost of hiring the room we usually have a raffle. We have Visiting speakers to give talks on archeology and history.
